The fifth edition of the International Blockchain and Applications Conference (BLOCKCHAIN'23) will take place in Guimarães from July 12-14, 2023. This annual event will bring together experts and researchers in blockchain and other distributed ledger technologies (DLT), who will share projects, ideas, conferences and advances related to these technologies and their application areas. In addition, this meeting will be held in the same location as the PAAMS'23 conference.

The BLOCKCHAIN'23 conference focuses on promoting research on next-generation blockchain and DLT technologies, as well as exploring the latest ideas, innovations, guidelines, theories, models, technologies, applications and tools of blockchain/DLT combined with other cutting-edge technologies. In addition, we seek to identify critical issues and challenges that will confront researchers and practitioners in future research. Our goal is to offer participants the opportunity to work on promising lines of research and publish their developments in this area.

During this congress, several workshops will be held, one of them is entitled "Blockchain and Metaverse Workshop: challenges and barriers for Blockchain technology in the Metaverse (BL-Meta)", in this workshop, the advantages, disadvantages and possible barriers in the deployment of solutions based on Blockchain technology in various applications and aspects of the Metaverse will be analyzed. Topics such as securitization of the Metaverse and authentication of avatar identity in interactions with existing digital marketplaces in the Metaverse will be addressed.

Importance of Blockchain technology

The scientific community believes that the combination of blockchain and next-generation distributed accounting technologies will transform various industries, such as manufacturing, media, financial, insurance, e-government, agriculture, energy, and even medical. In addition, the combination of DLT with other cutting-edge disruptive technologies, such as artificial intelligence, metaverse and quantum computing, will open up a myriad of incredible opportunities that, in turn, represent an exciting research challenge.

BLOCKCHAIN23 invites submissions and welcomes the topics listed in the call for papers. All submitted papers will undergo a thorough review process; each paper will be reviewed by at least three experts in the field for relevance, originality, importance, quality, and clarity.

Papers must consist of solid original, relevant and unpublished research results related to any of the conference themes.
