On 3 and 4 June, the University of Salamanca is hosting a new edition of PAAMS (http://www.paams.net), an international congress about Artificial Intelligence, where more than 200 researchers from all around the world are participating. The Bioinformatics, Intelligent Systems and Educational Technology (BISITE) research group (http://bisite.usal.es) is in charge of the organization of this event.

The event, which is now in its thirteenth edition, has been held for more than ten years in Salamanca and it brings together experts in practical applications of agents and multi-agent systems (networked systems that interact between them when developing complex actions).

The activities of PAAMS are being held at Palacio de Congresos de Salamanca (Congress Palace of Salamanca). The opening is on Wednesday 3 June, at 9:45 and is being held by Juan Manuel Corchado Rodríguez (Vice Chancellor of Research and Technology Transfer of the University of Salamanca and Head of BISITE Research Group); Masataka Inoue (Chancellor of the Institute of Technology of Osaka); Yves Demazeau (Chairman of the Scientific Committee) y Javier Bajo Pérez (Chairman of the Organization Committee).

Dr. Alex Smajgl, executive director of the Institute of the Future in Mekong Region in Thailand, is conducting the plenary sessions. He is talking about using technology to develop sustainable systems on Wednesday. On Thursday 4, Dr. Alex Rogers, from the University of Southampton (UK) is giving a talk on smart energy distribution. Every plenary session is starting at 10:00 at Sala Menor in Palacio de Congresos.

The closing of the congress will be on Thursday and IBM and BISITE will grant an award of 2,000 euros to the best application of agent technology.

PAAMS constitutes part of a series of international events BISITE organizes around its research activity. During the congress, a series of thematic meetings are taking place to complete the activity: DCAI about Distributed Artificial Intelligence; ISAMI: Ambient Intelligence; PACBB (Bioinformatics) and mis4TEL dedicated to Technology Enhanced Learning.
