The digital transformation is already evident in many sectors, in the world of finance as well. The incorporation of technology in finance, also known as Fintech, is based on the optimisation of resources by applying strategies to offer innovative products and services, adapted to the needs of today's clients.

Fintech companies develop applications, processes, products or business models which offer one or several complementary financial services and make them available to the public via the Internet. Fintech's objectives are to predict the demand for products by applying management and resource planning algorithms, to ensure security in web environments and to develop cryptocurrencies, among other purposes.

The revolution in the financial system has meant a change in perspective with regard to traditional laws. For this reason, it is necessary to renew the legal framework that allows the authorities to fulfil their functions without being affected by the current digital universe. In this regard, a law has recently been approved for the digital transformation of the financial system, which includes a regulatory Sandbox, which makes it possible to promote innovation in financial services in a secure environment.

FINTECH's scope

The FINTECH industry is divided into several areas, including:

  1. Payment systems and methods: incorporation of electronic payment solutions.
  2. Big Data: data analysis helps learn more about customers.
  3. Security and identification: make use of technology for data validation, such as facial or fingerprint recognition through biometrics.
  4. Cryptocurrencies: application of cryptography and blockchain to perform online transactions without intermediaries and with a high level of security.
  5. Crowdfunding: raising funds for projects from private users who want to support an idea, whether for ideological, emotional or economic reasons.

The sectors in which FINTECH consultants operate fall under the following verticals: mobile banking, big data and predictive models, compliance, crowdfunding, crowdlending, cryptocurrencies and alternative currencies, Forex, automated process management and digitalisation, payments and transfers, P2P loans, insurtech, security and privacy, financial advisory services, trading and Sandbox. Undoubtedly, this is a wide range of possibilities for creating or participating in interesting projects, connected to financial technology.

At our research group we have designed a degree to train specialists in this area. The Master's Degree in FINTECH offered at the University of Salamanca will enable you to direct and coordinate projects related to finance and technology. This training will provide you with practical experience through work on real projects in companies that partner with the BISITE Group.
