The Surveying & MARiTime internet of thingS EducAtion (SMARTSEA) project is moving forward with the selection of the students who will participate in the first ever programme of this type. This course will equip them with the skills and knowledge they need to work in the growing Smart Maritime & Surveying industry.

IoT technology has been growing rapidly and it is expected that by 2025, IoT could reach a total potential market impact of up to $11.1 billion. Large shipping corporations are already investing heavily in IoT solutions in their fleet to improve transparency, safety and profitability by optimizing procedures, maintenance and energy efficiency. This is why innovative degrees such as the one proposed by the SMARTSEA project are so important.

The master's degree includes an innovative curriculum composed of interactive teaching methods and partnerships with expert academic and maritime organizations to provide students with a solid foundation for a successful career in the industry.

The selected students will learn about the application of technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, IoT or Blockchain in the maritime industry. They will also acquire knowledge about maritime control systems, data acquisition and sensors, underwater communications and navigation, data processing or underwater physics.

On October 4th, the course will start by addressing the topic of the tools needed to promote new technologies in the maritime sector. An initiative that is carried out thanks to the coordination of our BISITE Research Group together with the University of Ljubljana, International Hellenic University, Maritime University of Szczecin, Tallinn University of Technology, Escola Superior Nautica Infante D. Henrique, a research center (National Institute for Marine Research and Development Grigore Antipa), two SMEs: Cerca Trova Ltd, ECQA GmbH and three companies of environmental studies and maritime transport: Creocean, RINA Hellas SA and Danaos Shipping Company Ltd.
