The TEchnological Consortium TO develop sustaiNabIlity of underwater Cultural heritage (TECTONIC) project, in which the BISITE Research Group at the University of Salamanca is participating, aims to advance the preservation and conservation of Underwater Cultural Heritage (UCH) by leveraging cutting-edge technologies, including Machine Learning (ML) and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI).

The project addresses several key challenges in UCH conservation, including the variability of underwater environmental conditions, the complexity of integrating diverse data sources, and the need for real-time, context-aware decision-making in remote underwater environments.

Data-based recommendation system

As UCH continues to face significant threats from environmental degradation, the development of intelligent decision-support systems becomes essential. The USAL team has designed a recommendation system to assess and predict UCH degradation, particularly corrosion, using real-time environmental data.

The system integrates data from various environmental monitoring tools and applies advanced AI techniques to provide actionable recommendations that aid in the mitigation of degradation processes, ensuring the long-term preservation of underwater cultural assets.

The recommendation system developed in this project operates through a hybrid architecture, combining both cloud-based and edge computing components. This flexibility allows for real-time data processing and recommendations, making the system suitable for deployment in field environments with limited connectivity.
