Water consumption is presently one of the more worrisome environmental problems in many areas around the globe. The main objective of the system to be developed in this project is to reduce the volume of water wasted with current irrigation systems by applying artificial intelligence methods and therefore optimizing the usage of the water in both agricultural irrigation systems and recreational fields such as golf courses.
The proposed new system can be applied to farms, providing a long term positive impact both in farm economy and environmental sustainability. While the proposed irrigation system is not a general system, it can be adequately adapted to existing irrigation needs that are dependent on a particular climate, type of soil or farming.
Sometimes the irrigation techniques applied in golf courses or other recreational fields are inefficient and waste excessive volumes of water to maintain the fields in optimal conditions. The proposed system can be used to keep the recreational fields at their optimum point while saving water at the same time.
The goal of the BISITE Smart Irrigation System is to design, manufacture and test an advanced irrigation outdoor system that can be used in farming, as well as in golf courses and other recreational fields. The water consumption in these systems is very high, often resulting in further water waste. The proposed system optimizes the usage of water resources by using artificial intelligence methods.
Different types of surface and underground sensors will be used in order to carry out this Project. The information generated will be processed by a multi-agent system which will will make it possible to analyze the different characteristics of the terrain as a function of environmental irrigation parameters.
