The research group has experience in the study of gene expression of patients with diverse pathologies. We have worked with data belonging to different types of microarrays, as well as expression data obtained through RNA-seq and studies have been carried out on the genomic and chromosomic levels through arrays CGH (Comparative Genomic Hybridization).
BISITE has worked on numerous research problems, in particular, our researchers have studied genetic expression in different types of cancer, with a focus on solving classification problems, biomarker selection, knowledge extraction and decision supporting problems. Among these studies, we can find works concerning the study of chromosomal regions associated with different characteristics in Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GIST), biomarker selection and discrimination of molecular subtypes in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLCs), the relation of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) to age and the role of the desmoplastic stroma, classification of patients with chronical lymphocytic leukemia and the extraction of tumor evolution markers in glioblastomas.
To carry out classification, selection and other tasks, various data mining and artificial intelligence techniques have been applied to information filtering, dimensionality reduction, grouping, classification and knowledge extraction from the obtained results.
