  • Information

The application of TICs in healthcare is known as eHealth, electronic health, medical technology or telemedicine among others. The new rationalization and efficiency philosophy adopted nowadays in medicine, together with the quick evolution of TICs is mostly responsible for the eHealth.

Every health area is susceptible to improve economically as well as when consuming resources or offering facilities to the patients. Medical equipment is probably the main area where a better scope for improving is offered. As an example we could cite the expensive Holter, which is a device that allows registering the heart electric activity.

The most influential TIC technologies in eHealth are mobile communications, which allow us to offer solutions to the patients wherever they are, cloud computing, which facilitates the information sharing, big data, etc. but perhaps, the most outstanding one is the tele-medicine, which is divided in more particular concepts, such us tele-rehabilitation, tele-surveillance or tele-monitoring.

Big data refers to a process that is used when traditional data mining and handling techniques cannot uncover the insights and meaning of the underlying data. Data that is unstructured or time sensitive or simply very large cannot be processed by relational database engines. This type of data requires a different processing approach called big data, which uses massive parallelism on readily-available hardware

The case-based reasoining (CBR) is a paradigm that is based on the idea that similar problems have similar solutions. It draws on past experiences to solve new problems. Thus, if in a past moment it decided to solve a problem using a certain solution and once the solution is applied it achieves a certain result. Then it seems logical that, if a new problem is presented with characteristics similar to that previously solved in the past, it resorts to the acquired experience to give a solution. The acting model of the CBR system is known for the life cycle of the CBR system.

Distributed systems and cloud computing have revolutionized traditional systems of communication and computing. The BISITE group has experience in distributed Artificial Intelligence, which joins concepts from two fields of knowledge: Artificial Intelligence and Distributed Systems. The field of Artificial Ingelligence (IA) attempts to understand intelligent entities. Additionally, it focuses on research in the field of Cloud Computing. The three fundamental points at the core of the group’s research are: Multiagent Systems, Distributed Resolution of Problems, and cloud computing systems. The basic problems studied within DAI. In line with this study, the team has worked on research projects in collaboration with companies such as INSA-IBM, among others.

Computer vision is a field that includes methods for acquiring, processing, analyzing, and understanding images and, in general, high-dimensional data from the real world in order to produce numerical or symbolic information, e.g., in the forms of decisions. (David Marr)

Mobile computing is human–computer interaction by which a computer is expected to be transported during normal usage. Mobile computing involves mobile communication, mobile hardware, and mobile software. Communication issues include ad-hoc and infrastructure networks as well as communication properties, protocols, data formats and concrete technologies.

Pathology is the precise study and diagnosis of disease. In BISITE Research Group, we use advances AI techniques for identify and diagnose different pathologies, including the last advances in hardware.

The pattern recognition is a branch of artificial intelligence concerned with the classification or description of observations. It aims to classify data (patterns) based on either a priori knowledge or on statistical information extracted from the patterns. The patterns to be classified are usually groups of measurements or observations, defining points in an appropriate multidimensional space.

A disease or medical condition is an abnormal condition of an organism that impairs bodily functions, associated with specific symptoms and signs. It may be caused by external factors, such as infectious disease, or it may be caused by internal dysfunctions, such as autoimmune diseases.
    • Technologies

There are so many techniques of content retrieval, the most of them are based on taxonomy analysis and contents analysis for texts. Las técnicas desarrolladas para recuperación por contenido de imágenes y vídeo se han basado en la obtención de características de color, forma y combinaciones de ambas en el dominio transformado obtenido.
