Francisco García, Laura Cerrada and Alicia Rubio, students of the 2023-2024 class of the Master's Degree in Digital Animation, offered by the University of Salamanca (USAL) through the BISITE Research Group, have a common goal: to make their way in the field of video game development.

Francisco's interest in the creation of video games began at a very young age, under the influence of his father at home. He grew up in this environment and continues to enjoy this activity in his free time, with games such as Diablo and the World of Warcraft.

‘I graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca and decided to do a Masters in Digital Animation because of my interest in illustration and video game development,’ said Francisco. He highlights the usefulness of this degree in learning how to use programmes such as Maya, ZBrush and Adobe Substance, tools for the design and modelling of characters and virtual maps where the dynamics of the videogame unfold.

For Laura, the most interesting thing about this training has been being able to capture her sketches in 3D and then prepare them for a videogame engine. In addition, she has had the chance to broaden her knowledge of concept art, with emphasis on aspects such as drawing, techniques, method and pipeline.

Alicia Rubio began her training with an interest in series and film animation. However, after expanding her knowledge in this area, video games and metaverse, her preference has shifted to the latter, due to the dedication and level of detail with which she must work to create characters and environments of great visual appeal.

Currently, these three students are doing internships as part of the Master's programme in AIR Institute's 3D Development and Metaverse team. This period, says Francisco, has served to improve their mastery of the programmes learnt in class and consolidate their skills to later face the challenges of the workplace.

‘The 3D Development and Metaverse team has guided us during this stage and has been attentive to each of our doubts, teaching us, at the same time, about the importance of optimal time management in the workplace,’ added Alicia.
