The effects of climate change are a global phenomenon, although it is true that there is growing awareness of this problem, it is necessary to create strategies that will encourage efficient energy use, not only by companies, but by the society as a whole.

Improving the energy efficiency by 32.5% is among the goals and objectives of the EU climate and energy policy for the period 2021-2030. The BISITE research group, is working on a project along these lines, together with the Experis and Sensing Control companies. The project's aim is to address the issue of energy efficiency from a more humane perspective.

The ECOCASA project (Intelligent Spaces and Social Computing for Behavioural Change in the End Consumer) seeks to create a platform that uses public data or the energy data collected by meters and intelligent devices from homes, in order to encourage efficient behaviour in users through personalised sociological strategies.

The main objectives of the project are as follows:

1. To stimulate behavioural change in favour of more energy-efficient habits.

2. To develop a standardized open platform for energy efficiency actions.

3. To achieve a drastic reduction in energy consumption and emissions

4. To test and refine the tools developed under real-life conditions

5. To demonstrate the cost-effectiveness of the proposed solution

An audit has been carried out beforehand to detect any areas of the homes through which heat got lost, so that energy efficiency could be improved by fixing those areas.

A communication gateway, which collects all the data from the sensors and IoT devices and sends it to the platform. Once there, it is analysed, decisions are made and suggestions and challenges are sent to the users.

In this regard, ECOCASA is an alternative for reducing energy costs in homes, by changing behaviour based on real data, obtained through sensing technology and the implementation of IoT devices in the home. New technologies definitely motivate us to improve energy efficiency and therefore protect our environment.

You can become a specialist and lead projects oriented towards IoT technologies with our Master's Degree in Internet of Things. You could design and implement strategic plans for intelligent buildings, with our Master's Degree in Smart Cities & Intelligent Buildings at the University of Salamanca.
