Lithopia is a design fiction parody of a "smart village" created by our Marie Curie fellow,  Denisa Kera, a philosopher and designer researching public engagement in emerging technologies.

As part of  her project “Anticipatory Ledgers: design and ethical framework for Distributed Ledger Technologies (blockchain or DAG) and applications (smart contracts)”.

Lithopia en la XXII Trienal de Diseño de Milán

Lithopia explores creative forms of future data governance and resistance by using blockchain technologies (Hyperledger Fabric) and smart contracts triggered by drone and open satellite data (Sentinel 2A and B Copernicus). Lithopian villagers sell and buy property, marry, and govern their affairs by using special long gestures and by covering spaces with red textiles so that they become visible to satellites at a strictly defined time, triggering blockchain transactions.

Denisa developed the blockchain and Node-RED prototypes visible as a dashboard and featured in a design fiction movie. The project is on display till September 1st at the Palazzo dell’Arte in Milan as part of the Triennale di Milano Czech national pavilion.
