From 4th to 6th of June, the University of Salamanca will be the headquarters of a new edition of PAAMS (http://www.paams.net), international congress about Artificial Intelligence where more than 300 researchers from all over the world are participating. BISITE, the Bioinformatics, Intelligent computing Systems and educational Technology research group will be organizing this event.

The conference, which is now in its 12th edition, has been celebrated since more than 10 years ago in Salamanca and in it, experts in practical agent applications and multi-agent systems (system networks interacting to each other in complex actions development) get together.

The information management advanced models system is changing in a vertiginous way, as in a short period of time this mechanisms development has facilitated a large quantitative and qualitative change. This change has allowed the application of such systems in complex activities requiring a certain degree of interactivity with the environment, such as persons or things tracing, industrial tasks control, transport system management and energy distribution among many others.

Artificial Intelligence plays a leading role in this change, which allows equipping the agents with the capacity to take decisions in respect to the environment and by interacting to each other. The results are systems with a high degree of autonomy, able to learn from its own experience and manage a large amount of data and situations without any human supervising.

PAAMS activities will be carried out at Palacio de Congresos de Salamanca. On Wednesday 4th, at 10 a.m., inauguration will take place and it will be presented by Juan Manuel Corchado (vice-president of research and president of the organizing committee), Yves Demazeau and Franco Zambonelli (co-presidents of the scientific comitee) and the principle of the Technologic Institute of Osaka, Masataka Inoue.

David Robertson, Computing Faculty director from the Edinburg University, will be in charge of the plenary sittings and will talk about Social Computing and Multi-Agent Systems on Wednesday. On Thursday a robot (Geminoid HI-4) will be in charge of offering the plenary conference. It is a clone of Hiroshi Ishiguro, professor at the University of Osaka and leader of the Advanced Tele-communications Laboratory with his name. The robot will expose a conference about humanoids and androids. On Friday it will be François Pachet’s turn, deputy manager of SONY Computer Science Laboratory in Paris, who will talk about Multi-Agent Systems applied to music. Plenary sessions start a 10:30 a.m. in the ‘Sala Menor’ from the Palacio de Congresos.

On Friday the congress closing will be happening, where IBM and BISITE will give the best Agent Technology Application award, consisting of 2.000 euros.

PAAMS is part of a series of international events organized by BISITE. Simultaneously, during the congress, some thematic meetings are happening to complete the activity: DCAI ( Distributed Artificial Intelligence); ISAMI (Ambient Intelligence) ; PACBB (Bioinformatics) and mis4TEL (dedicated to E-learning)
