To talk about telecommunications is to speak of the present and the future. It’s a good enough reason to gather experts in this field at renowned international conferences. This time, Salamanca was the host of the 17th edition of the IEEE International Conference on Ubiquitous Wireless Broadband ICUWB'2017.

From the 12th of September until Friday the 15th, experts and high level researchers specializing in different areas of telecommunications have passed through the rooms of the Multiusos I+D+i building.  Important and topical issues have been addressed, such as 5G technologies and bandwidth, to increase the effectiveness of equipment. In addition, these interesting works were accompanied by tutorials and workshop sessions, enriching the experience of conference attendees. The three plenary sessions were also very noteworthy for their renowned speakers; Renato Lombardi (Director of Huawei's Research Center, Italy), Moe Win (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and Sofiène Affes (INRS, Canada).

The gala dinner was the finishing touch to the event, the hard work of the organizers Juan Manuel Corchado, Javier Prieto and Javier Bajo was recognized.  Awards were also given to the best papers and the best students papers, they were delivered by Enrique Díaz-Plaza Sanz, Director of Business Development of IBM Spain. The winners were:

  • Ahmed Elzanaty, Ksenia Koroleva, Stanislav Gritsutenko and Marco Chiani. Frame Synchronization for M-ary Modulation with Phase Offsets

Maxwell-BISITE Best Student Paper Awards

  • Soenke Vehring, Yaoshun Ding, Philipp Scholz, Dominic Maurath, Friedel Gerfers and Georg Boeck. High Output Power Frequency Doubler for Digital PLLs in Fully Integrated 24 GHz CMOS Radar Systems

 

  • Javier Rosado Sanz, Maria Pilar Jarabo Amores, David De La Mata Moya, Nerea Del Rey Maestre and Pedro Gomez Del Hoyo. Design of a Broadband Patch Antenna for a DVB-T based Passive Radar Antenna Array.

 

Event attendees have pointed to the excellent organization and the quality of the papers that have been presented in this edition. On the behalf of the whole BISITE Research Group, we would like to give a big  thank you to all those involved; for their work, effort, time and dedication that helped make the17th edition a success. Moreover, for the past week Salamanca has been the centre of attention of the whole world of telecommunications.
