The Gaviria Palace in the province of León was the venue for the Conference on Cybersecurity in SME Environments, where the BISITE Research Group, together with CIBERIA, highlighted the need for cyberprotection in the workplace.
During the conference, Ms. Nuria González Rabanal, member of the CIBERIA Consortium, presented two crucial papers. The first one, focused on the importance of cyberprotection for professionals, highlighting how the lack of protection strategies in SMEs can negatively affect the confidentiality of their data.
In the second presentation, González Rabanal addressed the fear of cybersecurity audits, urging companies to see these assessments as an essential tool to strengthen their digital defences. The expert warned that approximately 28% of cybersecurity incidents occur in SMEs and that, on average, it takes companies 212 days to detect an attack and around 75 days to resolve it.
Among the most common threats, she said, are phishing, ransomware, supply chain attacks, weak passwords and missing security updates. These threats put internal company information as well as confidential customer and employee data at risk.
To prevent cyber-attacks, González Rabanal emphasised the importance of SMEs having a protection strategy in place, including regular cybersecurity audits, as well as ongoing employee education and training.
The Conference on Cybersecurity in SME Environments in León underlined the need to adopt cyberprotection measures in the professional world. With cyber-attacks on the rise, it is essential that companies, especially SMEs, implement effective strategies to safeguard their digital assets and maintain the trust of their customers and employees.
